Morandi Bridge ruling: Giovanni Battiloro's sister outbursts: "Justice hasn't been done."

The verdict on the Morandi Bridge collapse continues to arouse pain and bitterness among the victims' families. Among the most moving reactions is that of Laura Battiloro, sister of Giovanni Battiloro, one of the four young men from Torre del Greco who lost their lives on August 14, 2018, while on their way to vacation, along with 39 others, for a total of 43 victims.

The outburst on social media

Taking to Facebook to express her thoughts, Laura Battiloro expressed her family's disappointment following the verdict pronounced in Genoa.

"I'm so sorry, my brother, but today we have seen clear proof of how unjust and unnecessary your death was," he wrote. In his message, he retraces the eight-year trial, spanning 258 hearings, describing it as a long ordeal faced by the family in the hope of obtaining justice.

According to the victim's sister, the legal process has failed to restore the dignity her brother's death deserved: "We have discovered that justice is not taking its course and that the law is incapable of dignifying your death with an exemplary sentence."

"Italy has left us alone"

The long post also contains a harsh indictment of the institutions.

"Giovanni, justice has not been done. You are only the son of those who loved you. It was pointless to tell the story of what we lost: Italy simply stood by and watched, only to then look the other way," Laura Battiloro writes.

The message ends with words full of personal pain and deep bitterness for a tragedy that continues to mark the lives of the families of the victims: «I love you so much», he concludes, remembering his brother who passed away on the day he was reaching his holiday destination with his friends (
