Torre del Greco: Coast Guard fines four beach resorts

As part of Operation "Safe Sea and Lakes 2026," the Port Authority - Coast Guard of Torre del Greco, coordinated by the Campania Maritime Directorate, intensified controls during the last week of July across the entire maritime domain under its jurisdiction, with particular attention to navigation safety and beach surveillance.

During inspections, the military, in collaboration with the local police, found that a lifeguard was missing from the observation post at a beach resort, with the lifeguard engaged in activities unrelated to surveillance, thus violating safety regulations. At another resort, a lifeguard was fined for not wearing the red t-shirt marked "Lifeguard," an essential item for immediate identification.

The rules require that the lifeguard always be clearly visible and dedicated exclusively to surveillance, rescue, and lifesaving duties, a fundamental guarantee for the safety of swimmers.

Additionally, two beach resort owners along the Coral Coast were fined for occupying umbrellas and deckchairs within five meters of the shoreline. This is a free-access and rescue zone that must remain clear of any obstacles, as required by beach safety ordinances for both public beaches and concessions.

Each violation was sanctioned with an administrative fine of 1.032 euros.

Also in Torre del Greco, on July 28th, after numerous reports of a diver in distress near the shore, the Coast Guard dispatched a dinghy and a patrol ashore. Upon arrival, they discovered that the diver was engaging in recreational spearfishing without the mandatory surface signal, in an area designated for swimming, in violation of current regulations. The person was identified and fined €3.000.

Speargun fishing is prohibited in bathing areas during the day, as it poses a serious risk to the safety of swimmers.

In total, in the 25 checks carried out in the last week of July, 11 fines were issued for various violations, primarily relating to compliance with the Bathing Safety Ordinance.
