On August 18, 1908, the Torre del Greco Maritime Department was officially established, confirming the city's historical and strategic importance in the Italian maritime landscape.

Torre del Greco celebrates 118 years of Port Authority history.
August 18, 2026, marks the 118th anniversary of the official establishment of the Port Authority of Torre del Greco, a key body for the management and safety of local maritime activities. Although the Port Authority Corps originated with Royal Decree 2438 of July 20, 1865, it was only in 1908 that the coral city saw the creation of its own Maritime Department, thanks to Royal Decree No. 540 signed by Victor Emmanuel III.
This institution recognized the maritime vocation of Torre del Greco, which at the time based a large part of its economy on sea-related activities, from shipbuilding to fishing, to the important coral industry.
Today, the Port Authority continues to play a crucial role, providing administrative, operational, and safety services for navigation and maritime activities in the area. The Command also renews its commitment to always being close to the community, reminding everyone that for emergencies at sea, the Blue Number 1530 is active, in addition to the Operations Room number 081 8812200, available 24 hours a day.
On this anniversary, the Coast Guard thanks all those who have expressed their support, reaffirming the institution's central role in Torre del Greco and its surrounding area.
