Reckless escape in Castel Volturno: 36-year-old arrested on stolen scooter

Castel Volturno – Yesterday, July 22nd, it was a tense evening in Castel Volturno, where a high-speed chase involved Carabinieri officers from the Mondragone Territorial Unit. The incident began along Viale Michelangelo, when officers noticed a black motorcycle whose driver, upon seeing the patrol, attempted to suddenly change direction. Despite the order to stop, the man accelerated sharply, starting a dangerous escape.

A chase ensued through the streets of Pescopagano, characterized by risky maneuvers that endangered the safety of other road users. The chase ended on Via Giovanni XXIII, where the driver lost control of the vehicle, abandoning it to attempt to escape on foot through the surrounding fields.

The Carabinieri did not give up and, after a brief foot chase, apprehended the fugitive, a 36-year-old Ghanaian citizen, homeless and illegally residing in Italy. During the intervention, one soldier suffered bruises and grazes.

Checks on the motorcycle revealed it to be stolen, which was seized and turned over to a licensed company pending judicial decisions and its return to its rightful owner.

The 36-year-old was arrested on charges of assault and resisting a public officer, assault, and receiving stolen goods. After the usual formalities, he was held in Carabinieri custody pending further developments. The case is currently in the preliminary investigation phase, and the suspect is presumed innocent pending a final verdict, in accordance with the principle of presumption of innocence.
