Malagò and Mancini
Rome – The saga surrounding the search for the new national football team coach has come to an end. At the end of the Federal Council meeting, FIGC President Giovanni Malagò announced the selection of Roberto Mancini as the new national team coach, with Claudio Ranieri as director.
"I take full responsibility," said Giovanni Malagò, announcing the appointment of Roberto Mancini and the addition of Claudio Ranieri as technical director. "Their complete availability is very positive," he continued, "and they have acted with great sensitivity, even financially."
"This week," he added, "I will announce a third person who will be in charge of managing the national teams, overseeing the youth teams." "I thank Maldini and Leonardo, because they were frank and sincere, as I was," Malagò concluded.
Then, regarding Mancini's departure in 2023, Malagò said: "Are you asking me if Mancini's past was taken into consideration? Of course, and Roberto's apologies were important. They are a prerequisite for tomorrow's press conference. It's clear that every possible assessment has been made."
The president also responded to rumors circulating about Antonio Conte's hiring: "Conte is a coach with a history that speaks for itself. I have a very good relationship with him, but some people here continue to think differently than today's reality, which is not the reality of yesterday," Malagò said. "Today there is a coach and a president at Club Italia, and that's precisely why they parted ways with Maldini and Leonardo. The idea has always been Mancini and Ranieri." He then added: "Conte could certainly have been a candidate for the coaching post, Zola could certainly be a name that fits into the third party's selection.
Chiellini? One of the things I was very clear about when speaking with Paolo and Leo was that out of respect for the clubs that nominated and supported me, I won't hire people who work in Serie A clubs. Given this, there could have been other coaches or technical directors, even big names, but I never considered them.
The president then announced a press conference for tomorrow at 18 pm to present the new coach and the new president of Club Italia.
