More bloodshed on the roads of the province of Naples. A 16-year-old girl, Emanuela C., lost her life in a serious car accident yesterday evening in Licola, on Via Madonna del Pantano, the road connecting the villages of Varcaturo and Licola, in the Giugliano area.
The young woman was riding a scooter with an 18-year-old friend when, for reasons yet to be determined, the scooter collided with a car. The violent impact caused serious injuries to both girls.
A 118 nurse who happened to be in the area administered first aid. The two young women's conditions immediately appeared to be particularly serious.
Emanuela was taken to the emergency room at Santa Maria delle Grazie Hospital in Pozzuoli. Despite the paramedics' efforts, the 16-year-old died shortly after being admitted due to the severe injuries sustained in the crash.
Her friend, 18, is still hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the same hospital. Her condition is serious and her prognosis remains guarded.
The driver of the car was also involved in the crash, suffering from shock and requiring medical attention. The man, whose license was suspended and his car seized, underwent all the necessary tests to determine whether he was fit to drive at the time of the impact. The results and decisions of the magistrate of the Naples North Prosecutor's Office are now awaited.
State Police officers responded to the scene, conducting the necessary investigations to reconstruct the accident's dynamics. The investigation will clarify the sequence of the collision, any liability, and the safety conditions of the road at the time of impact.
Emanuela's death comes just hours after another tragedy on the roads north of Naples. Just yesterday, a few kilometers away, Francesco Speccio, 22, from Giugliano, was killed in an accident along the ring road near the border with Qualiano.
Two young lives lost in the space of a few hours. This tragic outcome once again brings the issue of road safety to the forefront of the provincial spotlight, especially on the main roads used by scooters and motorcycles.
For Emanuela, however, every attempt to rescue her was futile. The rush to the hospital turned tragic: she was just 16 years old.
