Fake Soldiers Arrested in Benevento for Attempted Extortion
During a coordinated operation in Benevento, the Carabinieri arrested two men accused of attempted aggravated extortion.
The two, a 39-year-old from Naples and a 53-year-old from Palermo, had posed as members of the Guardia di Finanza and Carabinieri. Approaching a woman and her son, they claimed there was a criminal investigation against them for cloning credit cards and license plates used in a jewelry store robbery.
With threats and the promise of imminent searches, including the use of canine units, they demanded cash, valuables, and even the serial numbers of the banknotes stored in the home.
The prompt reaction of one of the victims and the immediate reporting of the incident to the emergency number by their employer allowed the Carabinieri to intervene quickly, arresting the two suspects. They are currently in custody by order of the Benevento Prosecutor's Office, while the investigation continues to identify any accomplices.
