Casalnuovo: Man arrested for attempted extortion and assault on police officers

In Casalnuovo di Napoli, the State Police arrested a 40-year-old man with a criminal record, accused of resisting arrest and assaulting a public official, as well as attempted extortion.

The case began when a woman reported her car stolen the previous evening in Pomigliano d'Arco. While reporting the theft, the victim was contacted by a person who demanded €1.700 for the return of the vehicle.

Thanks to the information provided by the officers, the woman arranged a meeting to hand over the money without arousing suspicion. Officers from the Flying Squad were present at the scene at the time of the meeting. The man arrived, took the package containing the agreed-upon sum, and attempted to flee in a vehicle, endangering traffic and colliding with the patrol car several times.

After attempting to flee on foot, he was caught and arrested by officers, not without difficulty and after a struggle. The incident highlights the effectiveness of law enforcement intervention in combating extortion crimes related to car thefts and their ability to manage dangerous situations during arrests.
