Casavatore: Vandals at Mangiaplastica, a gang identified; several minors reported.

Casavatore – A swift and decisive intervention by the Casavatore Municipal Police led to the identification and reporting of a group of minors responsible for damaging the "Mangiaplastica" waste compactor in Piazza Mauro Orefice.

The reconstruction of the facts

The vandalism was reported on the morning of August 6th. Municipal Police officers, led by Commander Captain Dr. Francesco Perrella, immediately began an investigation, analyzing footage from the city's new video surveillance system.

Footage captured the gang kicking and punching through the facility's entrance door. Once inside, the youths stole electronic components—including an internal camera—and threw them, along with several security poles, at adjacent buildings. The footage also revealed that several youths had reached the pedestrian area on mopeds, riding recklessly.

Sanctions and reporting

Thanks to the evidence gathered, officers identified the perpetrators. The boys' parents were summoned to the police station, while the minors were reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Juvenile Court.

The operation also led to heavy fines under the Highway Code:

The mopeds used during the vandalism were seized.
Fines totaling approximately €8.000 were issued following charges for driving without a license, lack of insurance, failure to wear a helmet, driving in a pedestrian zone, and reckless parental entrustment of a vehicle.

Stolen goods recovered

All the stolen goods were recovered and returned to the municipal offices, which will evaluate the time and cost of restoring the system. Investigations are continuing to determine the involvement of additional minors.
The operation highlights the usefulness of the new video surveillance network and the Municipal Police's ongoing commitment to protecting public property and urban decorum.
