Scafati – It took just five minutes of heavy rain and exceptionally strong winds to turn a quiet summer day into a nightmare on the outskirts of Scafati, bordering Boscoreale. The violent downpour left a trail of devastation in its wake, even endangering the safety of an entire family.

The uprooted pine tree crashes onto the house

The most serious incident occurred in a residential area, where a huge pine tree was completely uprooted by the force of the wind. The tree fell on a small house while a family was inside.

Moments of sheer terror for the residents, who were forced to barricade themselves in their homes while waiting for the firefighters and emergency responders to arrive. Despite the violent impact and the severe damage to the building, none of the occupants were injured.

Wall and street lighting collapse

The fury of the wind didn't just uproot the tree. The gusts also knocked down a streetlight pole and caused part of the property's perimeter wall to collapse, further increasing the safety risks in the area.

The house suffered significant structural damage. The most obvious damage was to the roof and the street-facing façade, which were directly hit by the pine tree.

The violence of the storm front that hit the area in just a few minutes also caused flooding in some streets, and the winds assumed characteristics that caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure.

Firefighters are expected on site to remove the tree and secure the area, while the necessary checks will be carried out to determine the stability of the home and accurately quantify the extent of the damage. For the family involved, the fear of a near-tragedy remains, as the collapse of the giant pine tree could have had far more serious consequences.
