Caserta, four illegal landfills seized: hazardous waste and asbestos on the coast

Environmental control operations by the Caserta provincial police led to the seizure of four areas in the province, between Castel Volturno and Mondragone, where hazardous waste and harmful materials were stored. In Castel Volturno, in the localities of Destra Volturno and Pescopagano, three privately owned areas covering a total of approximately 3.000 square meters were cordoned off. These areas were characterized by environmental degradation and the presence of abandoned waste, including special and hazardous waste, some of which had been burned.

Numerous abandoned and partially dismantled cars were also found in these areas. The provincial police operation was coordinated by Colonel Biagio Chiariello.

The severity of the situation has led to the seizure of both the areas and the buildings, while three people have been charged with alleged crimes including uncontrolled storage and illegal disposal of waste. At the same time, a state-owned area in Mondragone was seized containing waste and damaged asbestos-containing material, which poses a serious risk to public health.

Investigations are underway to identify those responsible for this situation. Overall, during the checks, officers identified approximately 50 individuals and charged them with administrative violations totaling approximately €9.000. These actions highlight the authorities' commitment to combating irregular waste disposal practices and protecting the environment and public health in the province of Caserta.
