Sant'Angelo a Cupolo murder: 75-year-old man transferred to prison after attempted suicide
In the town of Sant'Angelo a Cupolo, in the province of Benevento, an investigation is underway into a femicide that has shocked the local community. Faustino Cardillo, 75, was transferred to prison after killing his wife, Maria D'Alessandro, a woman his age and a former postal worker, inside their home.
According to initial reports, the couple had an argument, during which Cardillo, a retired man and former confectionery factory employee, stabbed the woman multiple times with a knife, causing her death. The man subsequently attempted suicide by inflicting wounds to his throat and wrists. He underwent emergency surgery at the San Pio Hospital in Benevento and is now awaiting questioning in prison.
Investigators are working to clarify the circumstances of the incident and the motive, while the victim's body has been transferred to the hospital morgue for an autopsy. Acquaintances describe the couple as calm and reportedly observed no signs of concern, leaving many questions unanswered about the tragic episode. The couple leaves behind two adult children who were not home at the time of the tragedy.
