Poggioreale Prison
Naples – A true "turnkey" storage service for cell phones, prohibited inside the prison, but offered without any traceability or authorization. This is what the Carabinieri of the Poggioreale branch discovered, having executed a closure and administrative seizure order against the owner of a bar located directly across from the main entrance to the Naples prison.
During the inspections, the Carabinieri and the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office discovered two irregularities. First, the establishment was operating as a food and beverage service without the required permits.
On the other hand, a lucrative cell phone deposit business had been set up inside the business: the detainees' families, forced to get rid of their devices before accessing interviews, would hand them over to the bar in exchange for money, strictly without issuing any receipt.
Following the investigation, the manager was notified of the administrative seizure of the premises and fines totaling approximately €7.500.
