The Metropolitan City of Naples presents an innovative project to raise the profile of lesser-known archaeological sites, involving municipalities, associations, and tourism operators in preparation for the Mediterranean Archaeological Tourism Exchange in Paestum.

Naples Promotes Hidden Treasures: 'Adopt an Archaeological Property' Launches to Promote Minor Sites
The Metropolitan City of Naples has launched an initiative to highlight the region's many under-recognized archaeological sites. The project, called "Adopt an Archaeological Property," aims to engage the 92 metropolitan municipalities to highlight heritage sites often overlooked by the general public.
The initiative will be presented during the 28th edition of the Mediterranean Archaeological Tourism Exchange, which will be held in Paestum from October 29th to November 1st, 2026, an international event dedicated to the promotion of archaeological heritage.
The exhibition space within the Exchange will become a meeting point for municipalities, archaeological parks, superintendencies, and industry professionals, fostering the creation of collaborative networks aimed at adopting and integrating these assets into structured tourism circuits, promoting gentle, sustainable, and social tourism.
To select the participants, the Metropolitan City has published a public notice inviting public entities, companies, associations, tourist and cultural consortia, local tourist boards, museums, and folklore groups to express interest by September 30, 2026.
Deputy Mayor Giuseppe Cirillo emphasized the goal of creating a space for dialogue and promotion between the municipalities, while participants will have access not only to the exhibition area, but also to workshops and panels organized by the metropolitan authority to explore topics related to tourism and culture.
This initiative represents an opportunity to breathe new life into lesser-known archaeological assets, integrating them into the already recognized cultural and tourist heritage, with positive impacts for the entire Neapolitan region.
