Campi Flegrei, housing emergency: nearly 700 homes uninhabitable and over 1700 displaced.

The dramatic aftermath of the earthquake in Campi Flegrei has seen 691 homes declared uninhabitable and 1700 people forced to leave their homes. Investigations continue, and the number of displaced people is expected to grow.

A new emergency is rocking the Campi Flegrei following the powerful earthquake recorded last Friday, with the situation worsening by the hour. According to data provided by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, 691 homes have been declared uninhabitable and approximately 1700 people have been displaced.

In the municipality of Pozzuoli, 1652 people have been evacuated: 1514 have found independent accommodation, 78 are staying in hotels, and 60 are in the Palatrincone. Bacoli and Monte di Procida have 10 and 38 people in independent accommodation, respectively.

Inspections of the damaged buildings are underway thanks to the efforts of 37 firefighter teams. Prefect Di Bari emphasized that inspections are only halfway completed and that the number of displaced people is expected to increase, but assured that all possible measures have been implemented.

The inspections also include non-residential buildings, with four schools in Pozzuoli—Pitagora, Pareto, Tessinari, and Virgilio—presenting critical issues and being addressed by the Metropolitan City. A total of 17 places of worship are deemed unfit for use.

The difficulties also extend to traffic, with issues on the road connecting Bacoli to Quarto, for which a dedicated meeting is scheduled. Regarding financial assistance, the Municipality of Pozzuoli has established a task force to expedite the disbursement of the independent housing grant.

A steering committee coordinated by the Prefecture, which will also include a representative of the citizens' committees, will be established shortly to develop proposed amendments to the government decree under discussion, addressing the current shortcomings. Finally, work on the Via Artiaco hub will begin by Monday, with the support of the Campania Region and its president.
