Phlegraean Fields: New tremors at dawn
Pozzuoli – A finally quiet night, but only for a few hours. After the seismic swarm ended on Saturday evening, the Campi Flegrei began shaking again in the early hours of this morning.
The first seismic event was recorded at 6:50 a.m., with a magnitude of 2.0 and a depth of 2,2 kilometers. Less than an hour later, at 7:45 a.m., a second tremor of magnitude 1.5, at a depth of 1,2 kilometers, struck the same area.
Both earthquakes were located in the area between the Solfatara and Via Antiniana, one of the most active sectors of the Phlegraean caldera.
While the seismic sequence appears to have slowed down compared to previous days, the emergency situation in the area remains fully underway.
This was confirmed by the mayor of Pozzuoli, Luigi Manzoni, who provided an update on the situation of the displaced: over 300 people have already been forced to leave their homes, but the number is expected to increase with the completion of technical inspections of damaged or unsafe buildings.
Inspections continue non-stop to ensure the safety of the buildings and ensure the safety of the public.
On the maritime transport front, however, there is some positive news.
Following checks carried out on Friday and the subsequent closure of the dock for safety reasons, the Maritime District Office signed the ordinance allowing the reopening of the commercial port of Pozzuoli, which has been operational since 7:00 this morning.
The Port Authority had ordered a halt to operations after finding structural issues on the pier following inspections following the strong tremors of recent days. With the restoration of safety, the port has resumed normal use, representing the first sign of a return to normality, while the evolution of the bradyseismic phenomenon remains highly monitored.
