Ranucci Attack: Here's How Lavitola Was Discovered

Rome – Lavitola and Ranucci were friends, but that didn't stop the former publisher from plotting the attack and organizing, through his handyman Gomes Clesio Tavares, the raid that took place outside the journalist's home last October.

What were hypotheses just a month ago have come to fruition today with the arrest of Valter Lavitola and the pre-trial detention order for Gomes, who is currently untraceable.

Lavitola is accused of having conceived the criminal plan, instructing Gomes Clesio Tavares to identify individuals capable of obtaining the explosives and carrying out the attack. Furthermore, Lavitola allegedly personally participated, along with Gomes, in an initial exploratory inspection on September 15, 2025.

Gomes' role: his father-in-law's car for a reconnaissance mission along the Lazio coast.

Gomes, for his part, "recruited and trained the perpetrators, the gang of four people originally from Campania, and, in addition to taking part in the inspection, he coordinated and participated in a second reconnaissance on the Lazio coast on October 10, 2025, making his father-in-law's car available to the commando.

The restrictive measures are based on a solid and consistent prosecution case. The investigative findings "arise from cross-analysis of telephone and computer records from the cells serving the area of the attack, from the tracking of the vehicles involved in the preparatory phases, and from the forensic examination of the cell phones used by the suspects, which have refuted the attempts to pre-establish defensive alibis," the Carabinieri wrote in a statement.
