Rome – Italy is struggling to shake off the heat. Despite a slight, tentative easing of the heat after the record-breaking temperatures of recent days, tomorrow, 19 cities will still be under red alert, the highest level of heatwave alert. And the respite won't last long: on Wednesday, August 12th, the number will rise to 20.

This data, on the one hand, signals a partial improvement compared to last week's peak—when 27 cities were on maximum alert—on the other, confirms how widespread the heat emergency remains across much of the country.

Cities that will be marked with a red alert tomorrow include Rome, Naples, Palermo, Bologna, Bolzano, Bari, Florence, and Genoa. The situation is slightly less critical for Cagliari and Turin, where the yellow alert, the lowest alert level, is expected.

On Wednesday, when the list of the most affected cities will rise to twenty, Brescia will also be added, which tomorrow will instead be classified with an orange alert, meaning an intermediate alert level.
