Campania, drought relief for farmers: how to apply for funds

Naples – A sigh of relief for Campania's agricultural businesses, brought to their knees by the persistent lack of rain. The Campania Region has announced the activation of compensation provided by the AgriCat National Mutual Fund, the instrument designed to offset the economic damage caused by adverse weather events. Those hardest hit by the drought of recent months have been chestnut and hazelnut groves, key players in the region's agricultural heritage.

To access financial coverage, agricultural businesses must meet a series of technical requirements: they must be active farmers receiving direct CAP payments, have an updated company file (including the cultivation plan and the affected areas), and have already submitted the AgriCat membership application within the CAP Single Application.

Access to the grant is subject to verification of actual damage: the recorded loss of production must exceed the threshold of 20% compared to the company's annual average.

The application submission process is fully digital. Farmers, independently or through their local Agricultural Assistance Centers (CAA), must submit their claim report through the MyAgriCat platform, accessible on the fund's official website and integrated with the National Agricultural Information System (SIAN). The application deadline is September 30, 2026.

"Given the difficulties our farms are facing due to the drought, it is essential to ensure the widest possible dissemination of information on income support tools and production continuity," said Regional Agriculture Councillor Maria Carmela Serluca.

The council member also recalled that protecting production potential also involves long-term planning: as part of the 2023-2027 CSR, a call for proposals has been published for corporate investments in preventing damage caused by natural disasters, adverse weather conditions, and biotic threats.
