Sorrento Highway, meeting after the accidents: an inspection with Anas and the Highway Police tomorrow.

Following yet another accident, including a fatal one, on the Sorrento highway, a new safety summit has been held. At the Government Palace in Naples, Prefect Michele di Bari chaired a meeting of the Observatory for Monitoring and Planning Road Accident Response, with a particular focus on the SS 145 Sorrentina and the intersection leading to Sorrento, the site of frequent crashes.

The meeting was attended by the prefect Dario Caputo, coordinator of the Extraordinary Commission of the Municipality of Castellammare di Stabia, the mayors of Gragnano, Piano di Sorrento and Vico Equense, the representatives of the Municipalities of Pompeii and Sorrento, the police forces and representatives of Anas.

The main critical issues along the road were discussed, with the need for rapid safety improvements at the intersection. A joint inspection with ANAS and the Highway Police was therefore scheduled for tomorrow morning to identify the most effective solutions.

The immediate goal is to clarify the direction of travel by improving road markings, especially where accidents occur on the road to Sorrento.

In parallel, law enforcement and local police will continue to carry out checks along the entire highway, paying particular attention to the busiest sections during the summer months.

On the SS 145, inside the Santa Maria di Pozzano tunnel, the Vergilius system, activated in early August, is already operational. The speed limit is set at 60 kilometers per hour for all vehicles, while the safety distance between vehicles has been raised to 100 meters.

Finally, the summit reiterated the need to maintain high levels of attention on the areas most exposed to accidents and to accelerate already planned infrastructure projects. The goal is to strengthen prevention and reduce the risk for motorists and motorcyclists along one of the busiest arteries of the Sorrento Peninsula.
