Caserta – A race against time along the highway ended before the car could cross the national border. State Police found a ten-day-old baby girl near Florence, stolen on the evening of Sunday, August 9th, from relatives in the province of Caserta.

The car stopped by the officers was carrying the baby's grandmother, a Romanian woman who was already under house arrest. She had planned the trip to bring her newborn to Romania, but the immediate filing of a complaint and the swift investigation thwarted her plan.

The operation was triggered following a report of the disappearance: the Caserta Flying Squad, in close collaboration with the Marcianise Public Safety Commissioner, launched a comprehensive investigative effort that quickly identified the vehicle used in the kidnapping.

By tracking the car's movements in real time, the police coordinated the operation with the Flying Squad and the Highway Police of the Tuscan capital, who intercepted the car along the Florence stretch of the highway.

At the police station's stop, the little girl was immediately taken to safety and subsequently handed over to social services, where she is in good health. Her grandmother, however, was arrested in handcuffs: she was arrested in flagrante delicto for escaping house arrest and charged at large with abduction of an incapacitated person.
