Report: Ranucci on the verge of replacement and relocation to RAI

Rome – RAI's legal team is working to replace the host of Report and reinstate Sigfrido Ranucci in a senior role within the organization.

The host, at the center of controversy following the attack and his friendship with Valter Lavitola, the alleged instigator of the attack, is expected to step down as host of Report after nine years. The decision from Rai executives is expected in the coming days with an official statement.

Efforts are underway to avoid litigation, so the company's relocation, pending the conclusion of the investigation into the attack, must be at least of equal standing to avoid accusations of demotion and a labor lawsuit that would see RAI lose before the courts.

The controversy surrounding Ranucci's fate has inevitably spilled over into the investigative program. Ranucci himself has for days stopped making any statements about either the investigation or the program, which could have resulted in disciplinary action and even his dismissal. The Rai 3 program's editorial staff, which returned to work on August 16th, has also remained silent.

Ranucci's post on social media: "Unprecedented character assassination against me."

While Sigfrido Ranucci, host of Report since 2017 after taking over from Milena Gabanelli, has officially avoided making any statements about Rai and the investigation, the host has also vented on social media.

The latest post is the one in which he thanks everyone for the outpouring of solidarity and claims to be a victim of media and political pillorying.

"Thank you to everyone who has shown me incredible expressions of solidarity, affection, and support over these two months, with over two thousand articles that pertain to a character assassination that is perhaps unprecedented in the history of our country, and perhaps even globally. A sort of political pillorying by party newspapers," Ranucci wrote in a post on his social media channels. The journalist has scheduled an appointment for tomorrow's show of his tour, "Diary of a Trapeze Artist," in Cerveteri: "Afterward, I'll stay with you to exchange opinions, even just to shake hands or take a photograph. After that show, many things will be clearer," he concluded.

Meanwhile, regarding the journalist's "political ambitions" that emerged during the investigation into the October 16 attack on him, AVS leader Angelo Bonelli maintains that Ranucci's candidacy "is baseless news." "Getting lost in the leadership battle is a good way to lose an election," Bonelli said in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
