Safe Ferragosto on Ischia and Procida: 7 Reports and Widespread Checks
Over the Ferragosto weekend, the Carabinieri of the Ischia Company intensified patrols throughout the Ischia and Procida areas to ensure safety and compliance with regulations. The operation covered a wide area, from roads to ports, to the busiest beach resorts.
The overall toll is 519 people identified, 304 vehicles and 28 boats inspected, with 20 administrative fines issued for traffic violations. Additionally, three people were reported to the Prefecture for personal drug use.
Seven charges were filed against seven individuals. Four young people, aged between 17 and 26, were charged with illegal possession of weapons after being found with knives hidden in bags, suitcases, or even in their swimsuits.
In Forio di Ischia, a 39-year-old man was charged with resisting a public official, threats, and public intoxication. The man, under the influence, had caused a disturbance in several public places and, upon their arrival, attacked the Carabinieri and medical personnel, refusing medical attention.
Another incident involved a 32-year-old man caught in Procida riding an e-bike stolen in Naples a few days earlier. Thanks to investigations based on video surveillance and geolocation, the bike was recovered and returned to its rightful owner, while the man was charged with receiving stolen goods.
The checks also involved beach resorts: in Casamicciola Terme, the owner of one was reported for illegally opening entertainment venues after organizing an event with a capacity exceeding the authorized limit.
The operation was supported by the Carabinieri naval unit of Ischia, which inspected 28 pleasure boats and identified 59 people, issuing 6 administrative fines totaling €1.480.
This intense activity demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement to maintaining public order and safety during the peak tourist season in the Campania archipelago.
