From September to December, Campania will host over 30 trips on historic trains connecting Naples, Avellino, and the archaeological sites of Pompeii, Paestum, and Caserta, offering an integrated tourism experience that showcases the region.

The tradition of historic trains in Campania is revived: more than 30 journeys through the culture and landscapes of Irpinia.
Campania is preparing to rediscover the charm of historic trains with a packed schedule of over 30 journeys from September 6 to December 27, 2026. The initiative, promoted by the Campania Region and implemented in collaboration with the Fondazione Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane and various local institutions, aims to enhance the region's cultural and natural heritage, offering visitors a slow and immersive travel experience.
The vintage trains, which will resume service on weekends, will offer scenic itineraries departing from Naples and Avellino. Among the most significant destinations are the archaeological parks of Pompeii and Paestum, both recognized as UNESCO sites, which can be reached by the Archeotreno, whose first departure is scheduled for October 18th. The Reggia Express will connect Naples Central Station with the Royal Palace of Caserta, with its first departure on September 13th, while the Pietrarsa Express will offer visits to the Pietrarsa National Railway Museum, departing from Naples on September 6th.
Particularly interesting is the offering along the Irpinia Railway, with historic trains departing from Avellino for Montella, Lioni, Montemarano, Paternopoli, Taurasi, Cassano Irpino, and Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi. In these locations, to facilitate connections to the villages and places of interest, a shuttle bus service will be available, complementing the rail service.
This program, in addition to promoting cultural and landscape tourism, aims to be a model of integrated mobility, aiming to make discovering often difficult-to-reach places more accessible and attractive. Historic trains thus become vehicles for experiential tourism, connecting large cities, small towns, and natural areas, offering a new and sustainable way to experience Campania.
