Maiori, ARPAC confirms the sea is safe for swimming despite the slime.

Following analyses by ARPAC, the sea around Maiori was found to be safe for swimming despite the temporary presence of mucilage. The municipal administration promises transparency and ongoing monitoring of the management of public maritime property throughout the summer season.

The Campania Regional Agency for Environmental Protection (ARPAC) has confirmed that the waters of Maiori, on the Amalfi Coast, are safe for swimming, following inspections carried out following reports regarding sea quality.

The analyses showed that the waters met the requirements set by current legislation for bathing, despite the temporary presence of surface patches attributed to a natural mucilage phenomenon, which subsequently dissolved.

The municipal administration emphasized the importance of basing any assessment of sea quality on official scientific data and ensured timely and transparent information to citizens regarding public health protection.

At the same time, it was highlighted that the management of state-owned maritime property and beaches represents a separate issue, with a framework of concessions and assignments already defined before the current administration took office.

For this reason, ongoing checks and monitoring have been initiated by the relevant authorities to ensure the proper implementation of the concessions and compliance with the conditions for beach use. These checks will continue throughout the 2026 bathing season, to protect both the environment and beach users.
