A prison police officer will be interviewed by the prosecutor's office to clarify the circumstances surrounding the shots fired in the Prato emergency room during the arrest of a young man arrested for drug trafficking.

Shooting at Prato emergency room: prison officer to appear at prosecutor's office on September 4th
A prison officer involved in a shooting incident at the Prato emergency room on August 16th is scheduled for questioning by the prosecutor's office on September 4th. The officer, originally from Airola in the province of Benevento, is being investigated for attempted murder after firing three shots to prevent the escape of a 22-year-old Moroccan man arrested for throwing drugs over the gates of the Dogaia prison. One of the bullets injured the man in the leg.
Investigators collected statements from doctors, nurses, and those present in the waiting room, as well as surveillance footage from inside the emergency room and in the area outside where ambulances arrive. The footage shows the young man, despite being handcuffed, holding and discharging a fire extinguisher during his escape.
The officer will appear before prosecutor Luca Tescaroli, assisted by lawyers Vittorio Luigi Fucci and Giuseppe Vittorio Fucci, to provide his version of events. The defense maintains there is justifiable cause, emphasizing that the officer acted to stop the escaping prisoner, an intervention they believe to be legitimate.
The CIISA Penitentiary Federation also intervened in the case, requesting that the dynamics of the events be assessed, taking into account both video recordings and the perception of the officer, who was called upon to make a decision in a matter of seconds. Secretary General Romeo Chierchia also raised concerns about the application of Model 45-bis, the Register of Preliminary Notes required by recent legislation, requesting clarity on the procedures adopted.
The federation reiterated that the request is not intended to secure privileges or impunity, but to ensure clear rules and protections for officers performing their duties. The prosecutor's office continues its investigation to determine responsibility, while close attention remains focused on the methods of the operation and the conditions in which it was carried out.
