Use of the Taser by the Carabinieri
Senigallia – A dramatic outcome followed a police search. A man, whose identity has not yet been released, died this morning while being transported to the hospital in Senigallia, following a dramatic sequence of events that began with a car chase through the city streets and ended with a foot chase and a violent scuffle with the Carabinieri.
The Ancona Public Prosecutor's Office immediately opened an investigation into the matter. The prosecutor on duty, Valeria Cigliola, has already ordered an autopsy to fully clarify the cause of death and determine whether or not there is a direct connection to the tense phase of the arrest.
According to the police's reconstruction so far, the intervention was triggered when the man, found to be in a clearly and severely altered state of mind and body, attempted to escape detection by fleeing. This ensued a car chase through the streets of Senigallia, which then continued on foot.
When approached by the Carabinieri, the man allegedly put up fierce resistance, sparking a fight in which two officers were injured. Given the impossibility of containing him and the dangerous situation, officers were forced to deploy a Taser to safely subdue him.
Once he was restrained and loaded into the ambulance to be taken to the emergency room, the situation didn't initially appear desperate. The man appeared very agitated, but his vital condition didn't immediately raise any particular alarm among the emergency responders.
Shortly thereafter, however, his clinical condition suddenly deteriorated, resulting in his death on the way to the medical facility. It remains unclear whether the man's death was due to an endogenous illness—perhaps related to his initial state of altered consciousness—or whether the containment procedures and use of the Taser played a decisive role.
The forensic investigations ordered by the Ancona Prosecutor's Office will be crucial in establishing the judicial and technical truth about what happened in the last few hours in Senigallia. Investigators are collecting all the testimonies and service reports to reconstruct minute by minute the intervention of the Carabinieri and clarify every grey area of a morning that ended in tragedy.
