The incident occurred in the afternoon on Corso Umberto I, at the corner of Via Diomede Marvasi. Officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue were on a patrol when they noticed a young man cautiously following a couple.
According to the police's reconstruction, the 19-year-old allegedly stole the man's cell phone from his backpack. Once discovered, he allegedly reacted violently in an attempt to escape.
The patrol intervened immediately, managing to reach and subdue the young man after a struggle. During the intervention, the 19-year-old allegedly kicked and punched officers, requiring the use of force to restrain him.
The phone was recovered by the officers and subsequently returned to its rightful owner, who filed a complaint.
The young man was subsequently arrested on charges of improper robbery, resisting arrest, and assaulting a public official. His case is now under judicial review, respecting the presumption of innocence until a final sentence is reached.
