Ponticelli, 32-year-old man arrested for resisting arrest and assault

He failed to stop at a police checkpoint and attempted to evade police, first driving and then on foot. A 32-year-old man with a criminal record was arrested in Ponticelli and charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a public official and damaging public property.

The incident occurred during a patrol conducted by officers from the Ponticelli Police Station. While driving along Via Angelo Camillo de Meis, the officers noticed a car carrying the 32-year-old.

Upon seeing the patrol, according to the police reconstruction, the man allegedly sped up in an attempt to evade control, despite being ordered to stop. A brief chase ensued through the local streets.

While fleeing, the driver reportedly first crashed into the patrol car. He then abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Officers caught up with him and arrested him after a struggle.

The 32-year-old was then arrested on charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a public official, as well as damaging public property. The investigation continued inside the car used by the man. Police found a quantity of cocaine inside the vehicle.

For this reason, the 32-year-old was also fined for illegal possession of narcotics for personal use. The case remains under judicial review, respecting the presumption of innocence until a final sentence is issued.
