Caserta – A 20-year-old Bangladeshi man who was struck by a car while riding an e-bike on Saturday evening in Castel Volturno died yesterday afternoon, after three days of hospitalization in desperate conditions. The accident occurred on Via Domiziana, in the Pinetamare area. A 15-year-old Bangladeshi man, also riding an e-bike, was killed instantly in the same accident.
The 20-year-old was transported to Pineta Grande Hospital with critical injuries and admitted to intensive care. Doctors attempted to save him, but the injuries sustained in the crash proved to be life-threatening. With the second death, the case against the driver of the car—a 41-year-old from Villa Literno—has been upgraded from vehicular homicide with serious injuries to double vehicular homicide. Immediately after the collision, the man did not stop; he was subdued by several witnesses and handed over to law enforcement.
Meanwhile, yesterday, again on the Domiziana, on the Destra Volturno stretch, a van struck a man and a woman in their sixties who were attempting to repair their broken-down car. The driver stopped. The two injured were hospitalized: he to a hospital in Caserta, and she to Pineta Grande, with a critical prognosis. The road remains one of the most dangerous stretches in the Caserta area.
