Naples: 67-year-old arrested for sexually assaulting his 10-year-old nephew

A 67-year-old man was arrested by police in Naples on charges of aggravated sexual assault, production of child pornography, and corruption of a minor. The charges relate to acts that, according to the investigation, were committed against the suspect's nephew, who was 10 years old at the time.

The 67-year-old was taken to prison pursuant to a precautionary custody order issued by the investigating judge of the Naples Court.

The Flying Squad investigation

The investigation was conducted by the Naples Flying Squad and coordinated by the specialized section of the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office that deals with gender-based violence and the protection of vulnerable groups in the population.

According to investigators' reconstruction, the man allegedly took advantage of the minor's physical and mental inferiority, inducing him, according to the prosecution, to suffer and perform repeated sexual acts.

The charges also include the alleged production of child pornography, a factor that has further aggravated the investigative framework outlined by investigators.

The investigations and the complaint

The investigation began with a complaint filed by the minor's parents, who, through the intermediation of an extracurricular tutor, had learned of the repeated sexual abuse their son had suffered.

The investigation revealed that the uncle helped the 15-year-old minor with his schoolwork and allegedly forced him to engage in sexual acts starting at age 10. The man is also under investigation and subject to a precautionary measure for child pornography, as he allegedly produced child pornography by taking photographs of the minor, including while he was performing sexual acts, and for corruption of a minor, as he showed his nephew pornographic material depicting children engaged in sexual acts.

In light of the evidence gathered during the investigation, the Prosecutor's Office requested the application of a precautionary measure. The investigating judge of the Naples Court ordered the 67-year-old to be held in prison.

The man's position will now be assessed in the subsequent stages of the proceedings. The charges are currently under investigation and will need to be confirmed during the judicial process, in accordance with the presumption of innocence.
