Arzano, raid on Via 167: the Monfregolo clan's luxury outbuilding has been cleared.

Arzano – Fine marble, Versace-branded wood paneling, reinforced doors, statues of saints, a whirlpool tub, and even a video intercom at the entrance. This isn't a villa worthy of a magazine cover, but a public housing apartment in the heart of the 167th district of Via Colombo in Arzano. Yesterday, local police officers cordoned off the block and carried out the forced eviction of the Monfregolo clan, freeing the illegally held property and granting access to the true and legitimate tenants.

Unbridled luxury in the council houses of district 167

The anti-Camorra operation concludes a lengthy bureaucratic process: the apartment should have been vacated over two years ago, but the former occupants had deliberately left the furnishings inside to prevent the handover. The furnishings were estimated to be worth hundreds of thousands of euros, an expression of the flaunting of power typical of criminal organizations that transform public assets into luxurious residences.

Politicians' reactions: "No free zone"

Mayor Giuseppe Vitagliano also followed the operations, stressing that the city will no longer be a free zone. "The restoration of legality and the defense of our community's rights are the cornerstones of the administrative action we intend to pursue with unwavering determination. What happened in the 167th district clearly demonstrates that in Arzano there are no grey areas or territories left at the mercy of crime.

"Restoring public housing to those who truly deserve it, wresting it from the arrogance of organized crime, is an act of social justice and of strong symbolic value." Also present was Avs MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who underlined the importance of "restoring to those in financial difficulty what the Camorra had arrogancely stolen."

The Local Police's strategy and high-profile evictions

The operation is part of a broader intelligence and census effort conducted by the "White Helmets," spurred by detailed reports from local newspapers and repeatedly anticipated in the pages of Roma. This team effort has recently led to a string of "high-profile evictions" in the same neighborhood, including those of the mother and wife of the clan's leaders, putting an end to a decades-long pattern of illegal occupations and building violations perpetrated on public porticoes.

The operation conducted in the 167th district is part of a structured and rigorous administrative and territorial control effort, aimed at the binding restoration of legality and the mandatory protection of citizens with rights.

Commander Maiello's appeal: "Report and report."

"With today's intervention," Maiello further specified, "we have completed the physical liberation and restitution of the property, continuing a legal process already established by the Local Police. I want to emphasize that this is not an isolated incident, but rather the launch of a systematic strategy: in the coming days, we will carry out further evictions of unlawfully occupied public property, paying the utmost attention to all those situations where connections with organized crime are evident."

Our goal is clear: to reaffirm, with concrete facts and within the law, the sovereignty of the institutions over the territory. I wish to directly reassure the family who will take possession of the house from today that the police and the State have put in place adequate safeguards and will guarantee their protection and peace of mind. Those who commit crimes must know that the institutions will get to the bottom of it. Have the strength to report and denounce.

The elimination of the Monfregolo clan

The Monfregolos and their associates were all arrested on April 25, 2022, following a raid by Carabinieri in Castello di Cisterna that resulted in the arrest of 29 members of the Arzano secessionist wing linked to the Amato-Pagano family. That operation, in addition to ending the war that had bloodied the municipalities north of Naples, also wiped out the entire Monfregolo family.
