Campania, NAS inspections: two businesses suspended due to serious food irregularities and undeclared work.

The Carabinieri of the NAS (National Anti-Corruption Unit) in Salerno have suspended two businesses between Irpinia and Piana del Sele for violations of hygiene and health regulations, workplace safety, and the presence of illegal workers. They also seized risky food products.

Two businesses in Campania have been suspended following a thorough inspection conducted by the Carabinieri of the NAS (National Anti-Corruption and Prevention Unit) of Salerno, in collaboration with the Labor Inspectorate and the Avellino Local Health Authority. The inspections, conducted at bakeries and dairies located in Irpinia, Cilento, Valle Metelliana, and Piana del Sele, revealed serious deficiencies in hygiene, sanitation, and structural aspects, as well as workplace safety.

In Irpinia, a bakery was immediately closed due to poor hygiene conditions, including inadequate cleaning, a lack of suitable changing rooms, and the lack of dedicated storage areas for raw materials. Workplace safety violations and illegal employment were also discovered. During the inspection, approximately 100 kg of frozen food products, including vegetables and legumes, and 30 kg of untraceable baked goods were seized.

Additionally, two bakeries located in Cilento and the Metelliana Valley have received formal warnings regarding the need to promptly resolve health and hygiene and structural issues.

In the Sele Plain, a dairy was closed by order of the local health authority (ASL) after flying and crawling insects were found in the processing and storage areas. Many products were seized and sent for destruction due to the high risk of contamination.

The closed facilities represent an estimated value of approximately €650, while administrative fines exceed €26, with fines averaging around €22. These actions are part of a broader control plan to ensure food safety and compliance with labor regulations in the region.
