A tree trunk falling on the overhead line interrupted service on the Air Campania funicular to the Montevergine sanctuary, already isolated after the 2025 landslide.

The Montevergine funicular railway is blocked by a fallen tree trunk, causing disruption to pilgrims.
The rail service between Mercogliano and the Montevergine sanctuary was temporarily suspended due to a tree trunk falling onto the overhead power line of one of the Air Campania funicular carriages. The incident occurred this morning, when an empty train descending the mountain suffered a power outage caused by the fallen branch. The system's safety system was automatically activated, halting the ride.
Company staff promptly reactivated the system and allowed another convoy with 57 passengers headed to the sanctuary to complete the journey safely. Currently, the funicular remains idle, awaiting repairs to the overhead line so it can resume service as soon as possible.
This suspension adds to the existing difficulties in reaching Montevergine, where the provincial road to the summit of Mount Partenio has been closed to traffic since November 2025 due to a landslide. No injuries or dangers have been reported for passengers involved in today's incident.
