Casalnuovo launches the 'Truth Committee' to promote responsible reporting.

A new civic front has been formed in Casalnuovo di Napoli: the Truth Committee, made up of citizens, pensioners, teachers, lawyers, environmentalists, and associations, with the aim of spreading the culture of reporting and contributing to the work of institutions and law enforcement in upholding the rule of law.

The committee will last two years and will not have a social media page: reports and complaints will be sent to a dedicated email address (comitato_verita@libero.it), with the aim of supporting and guiding those who report the matter in protecting their rights. Its scope is not limited to Casalnuovo but extends to other municipalities as well.

Representing it will be Gaetano Fioretti, a young journalist focused on environmental issues. He explains that he accepted the role after being contacted by citizens and professionals in a network that now numbers around 50 people. Fioretti also recalls a personal incident: two years ago, unknown assailants vandalized the car parked in front of his home.

"I accepted the invitation of many citizens who urged me to continue reporting the abuses we see every day," he explained, adding that the idea for the committee came about by chance, thanks to a colleague who reached out to citizens, lawyers, and ordinary citizens. "We need to be a reporting committee, and we don't want anyone who likes the organization's social media pages to be at risk of being associated with the work we'll be carrying out in the area."

Fioretti emphasizes that the "contact person" formula allows for the focus to be on one individual while protecting other citizens who will also report anonymously. It has also been established that the committee will officially last two years: after this period, any future developments will be evaluated.

This is supported by a fundamental collaboration with the Naples Prefecture, the Naples and Nola Public Prosecutor's Offices, and the law enforcement agencies, who "do a commendable job" but who, together with the committee, intend to contribute by spreading a culture of reporting and legality. According to the promoters, change can be achieved one step at a time.
