Catapano leads SINch: innovation, training, and patient care at the heart of Italian neurosurgery

Naples celebrates the appointment of Giuseppe Catapano as president of SINch during the 75th National Congress; his leadership focuses on research, training, and innovation in the field of neurosurgery.

During the 75th National Congress of the Italian Society of Neurosurgery (SINch) held in Catania, Giuseppe Catapano was elected president of SINch.

The recognition sees him succeed Domenico D'Avella as head of the scientific society that represents Italian neurosurgeons and promotes the development of the discipline through research, training, and innovation. Catapano directs the Neurosurgery Unit at the Ospedale del Mare in Naples and has overseen a process of consolidating the institution as a regional referral center, increasing its volume of operations, quality of care, and attracting trainees.

The election was welcomed as a testament to the professional and scientific path he has undertaken, with a particular focus on strengthening the training of young specialists and the introduction of cutting-edge technologies and procedures.

Catapano's experience ranges from complex neuro-oncological conditions to skull base surgery, from degenerative and traumatic spinal pathology to vascular neurosurgery. Particular attention is paid to the use of minimally invasive techniques, intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, and technologically advanced approaches.

Under his direction, the Neurosurgery Unit at Ospedale del Mare has consolidated its role as a regional referral center, increasing its volume of work, the quality of care, and its ability to attract trainees. Catapano also directs the Department of Neuroscience at ASL Napoli 1 Centro, a complex organization comprising two Neurosurgery Units, three Neurology Units, two Neuroradiology Units, and two Rehabilitation Units, spread across three city hospitals.

"I accept this role with a great sense of responsibility," Catapano stated. "My commitment will be focused on strengthening the value of Italian neurosurgery internationally, supporting scientific research, quality care, and the professional growth of the new generations." He also emphasized that new technologies offer significant opportunities, but the patient and their needs must remain at the center of every decision, ensuring access to the most appropriate care.

The appointment was presented as a sign of pride for the entire ASL Napoli 1 Centro and a reflection of the clinical and scientific excellence demonstrated by the company's professionals. The Strategic Management, on behalf of all the staff, offered heartfelt congratulations to Professor Catapano on this prestigious appointment and for the fruitful commitment it will bring to Italian neurosurgery.

This significant step for the region's public health system highlights the importance of a care model that integrates clinical excellence, training, and technological innovation for the benefit of patients.
