Daniel Orsato
Marco Guida will soon return to refereeing Napoli. This was confirmed by Daniele Orsato, the referee designator for the National Referees' Association, who spoke at the IBC in Lissone during a media briefing. The discussion also focused on Fabio Maresca's situation and the criteria adopted to avoid, whenever possible, appointing referees from the same section as the teams.
"Will Guida return to referee Napoli after being the fourth official against Como? Very soon, he's from the Torre Annunziata section. Maresca will be more difficult because I'd like to avoid referees from the same section as the teams," Orsato explained.
The reference is to the two Campanian referees who previously expressed their desire not to officiate Napoli matches for safety reasons. Guida, from the Torre Annunziata section, was recently selected as the fourth official in the match against Como and, according to the referee's designator, could therefore soon return to the referee's chair for an Azzurri match.
The process for Maresca, a member of the Naples section, is more complex. Orsato explained that the criterion is also applied in other cities, citing the cases of Simone Sozza, of the Seregno section, for Inter and AC Milan, and that of Livio Marinelli, of the Tivoli section, for Roma and Lazio.
"A filthy man from Seregno who referees Inter and Milan, just like Marinelli from Tivoli for Roma and Lazio," said Orsato, adding that it will be more difficult to see Daniele Doveri, from the Rome section, in charge of one of the two teams in the capital.
During the meeting, the CAN refereeing refereeing referee also acknowledged seven refereeing errors between the league and the Coppa Italia: five in Serie A and two in the domestic competition.
Three of the penalties were not awarded in the league, and according to the CAN's analysis, VAR should have intervened. In Torino-Milan, Vlasic's handball should have been penalized, while in Fiorentina-Frosinone, Dragusin's challenge on Monterisi should have been penalized. In Juventus-Atalanta, however, the penalty should have been awarded for Kalulu's hold on Rowe.
Two incidents led to the missed red card. Caqueret should have been sent off for the challenge on Britschgi in Como vs. Parma, while Jimenez should have been sent off for the tackle on Bracaglia in Fiorentina vs. Frosinone.
The other two errors came in the Coppa Italia. In Fiorentina-Pisa, a penalty was denied for Caracciolo's hold on Pellegrino. In Torino-Monza, however, VAR should not have overturned the penalty awarded for Lucchesi's handball, as it was a field decision.
Other controversial incidents, however, remain uncounted. These include Genoa vs. Napoli, with the contact between De Bruyne and Vazquez, and Inter vs. Napoli, for Lobotka's alleged handball, which was never confirmed by television footage. The "collision" between De Winter and Kolo Muani before Cisse's goal in Juventus vs. Milan was also not considered an error.
Gabriele Gava, a member of the Can, finally outlined the new refereeing lineup: effective time has increased to 59 minutes and 24 seconds, 5 minutes and 53 seconds more than last season. Fouls, on average, have decreased from 26 to 22,74, penalties have decreased to just five in five rounds, yellow cards have decreased from 3,63 to 3,22, and red cards have decreased from 0,18 to 0,04.
