Tragedy in Serre, when a van carrying three workers overturns, leaving one dead and two seriously injured.

Serre – A new work-related and road tragedy is causing bloodshed in the Salerno area. This afternoon, Saturday, September 19, 2026, around 1:30 PM, a serious traffic accident occurred on the Strada Statale 19 delle Calabrie, in the Pagliarone district of Serre, a short distance from the highway junction.

An open-bed van—an Iveco Daily—carrying three workers who were returning home after their shift suddenly skidded off the road, overturning heavily on the carriageway.

The toll is heavy: there was nothing that could be done for the driver of the vehicle, a man from Altavilla Silentina. The violent impact left him with no chance of survival, and he died instantly from his injuries.

The intervention of the rescue services and the injured

The emergency response team was immediately activated by the 118 operations center, dispatching a medical car and ambulances from the Red Cross and VOPI. Firefighters from the Eboli detachment also assisted the paramedics, who intervened to tear apart the crumpled metal of the passenger compartment and allow the extrication of the passengers and the victim's body.

The other two workers on board, two young residents of Albanella, were seriously injured. Stabilized on-site by medics, they were taken to the hospital with critical injuries and lacerations.

Carabinieri officers from the Eboli Company arrived at the scene of the accident to conduct the technical investigations needed to reconstruct the precise circumstances of the rollover, which are currently under investigation. Among the hypotheses being examined by investigators, the driver's illness, a mechanical failure, or a loss of traction have not been ruled out.

State Road 19 was temporarily closed to traffic and suffered heavy delays to allow for safety maneuvers, police investigations, and the subsequent removal of the damaged vehicle.
