Gennaro Santamaria, a former Benevento municipal official, was released from house arrest after preliminary investigations judge Maria Amoruso revoked his order, six months after his arrest for alleged extortion.


Benevento: Former municipal manager released, house arrest revoked
A former Benevento City Council official has been released after investigating judge Maria Amoruso granted the prosecutor's request to lift his house arrest. Gennaro Santamaria, arrested on March 30 for alleged extortion against a surveyor and director of a design firm, allegedly demanded seventy thousand euros to unblock some building permits.
Santamaria had been under house arrest since May 19th, after being released from prison following his cooperation with investigators. The revocation order was notified to the Carabinieri of the Benevento provincial command's operational unit, who informed the interested party.
According to the text of the order, during the six months of detention the interested party complied with the imposed requirements and provided extensive statements regarding the facts for which the proceedings are being conducted.
