Human remains found during Enel excavation: work halted immediately in Montesano.

Montesano sulla Marcellana — An unexpected archaeological discovery has halted construction work in the heart of Montesano sulla Marcellana. During excavations sponsored by Enel in Piazza Gagliardi, a short distance from the Town Hall, several shallowly buried human remains emerged.

The immediate report led to the suspension of excavation work and the on-site intervention of experts from the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, coordinated by an archaeologist in charge of the initial field surveys.

According to Mayor Giuseppe Rinaldi, a preliminary analysis of the site suggests the bones belong to at least two individuals. Technical and scientific investigations will continue in the coming hours to definitively establish the burial date and reconstruct the historical context of the discovery.
