This time, Raffaele De Rosa can smile. The 36-year-old from Marano, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, received a new car after his own was set on fire following an incident involving the disabled parking space in front of his home.

A concrete gesture that restores Raffaele and his family's fundamental independence. The car, in fact, is more than just a means of transportation: it's essential for driving his wife to work in Naples every day and then to her physiotherapy sessions.

The local dealership, RG Motors, made this gesture of solidarity by giving the family an immediately usable vehicle, complete with third-party insurance and a full tank of fuel.

The community's response

But Raffaele's story has become, above all, the story of a community that has chosen not to look the other way.

The fundraising campaign launched in recent days has exceeded €43. Raffaele himself deemed this amount sufficient, and asked for the campaign to be suspended.

"In life, you should never let yourself get down. You should always find that little something inside yourself that makes you smile," said the 36-year-old, visibly moved. He then thanked the many people who have decided to support him: "I expected a response from the community, but not this great. I'd like to thank each of these people, one by one."

Simple words that convey the meaning of what happened better than any number.

The 43 thousand euros to break down barriers

The money raised won't go to waste. Instead, it will be used to concretely improve the lives of Raffaele and his family.

The options include, among other things, purchasing a second car, which would allow the family to better organize their daily commute, or home improvements to remove architectural barriers and make it more accessible.

The use of the funds will be accounted for. This commitment was also made by MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who has followed the matter from the earliest stages.

«This car is fundamental for Raffaele's daily life», underlined Borrelli, recalling his daily trips between Marano, Naples and the places where he undergoes the necessary therapies.

The MP also highlighted the fire's danger: the car was located on a narrow, densely populated street. "It could have exploded, and the flames could have engulfed buildings," he noted.

Then the broader meaning of the solidarity gathered around the 36-year-old: "From evil came good: that of the good part of this city made up of people who do their utmost for others."

But the matter, Borrelli recalled, cannot be considered closed.

"Now we only hope that whoever committed this vile act will be brought to justice," he added.

And addressing those who set the car on fire, he concluded: "You wanted to isolate and intimidate a citizen who was simply asking for his rights to be respected, and instead you unleashed an unstoppable wave of generosity and social redemption."

From a disabled parking space to a fire

It remains unclear who set fire to the car and, above all, why.

According to De Rosa's complaint, the incident may be linked to the numerous reports he received requesting the removal of cars illegally occupying his reserved parking space in front of his house.

Raffaele had asserted a legal right: to be able to use the space designated for people with disabilities. This request, according to the reported reconstruction, resulted in a criminal act that culminated in the burning of his car.

Now, while solidarity has allowed us to turn the page at least on a material level, the legal issue remains open.

This is perhaps the strongest paradox of the whole story.

Whoever set the car on fire intended to harm a man already struggling daily with the challenges of illness. Instead, a network of solidarity has gathered around Raffaele, involving citizens, associations, and businesses.

The new car is the most concrete symbol of this response.

Raffaele, standing next to his car, smiles again. And in his words, there's the sense of a story that, after the fear and anger, has found a different ending than anyone had probably imagined: "I thank everyone, one by one, for what they've done for me and my family."

The new car restores mobility. The €43 raised can help restore greater independence. But the most significant response came from the community: faced with an act of intimidation, Marano chose to stand with Raffaele.
