Mondragone: A minor drug dealer flees on a scooter and hits a police officer.

Mondragone — During a patrol on the night of September 13, the Carabinieri of the Mondragone Territorial Unit arrested a local youth, born in 2008, who was seriously suspected of violence, resisting arrest, and assaulting a public official, carrying weapons or instruments of aggression, and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

According to investigators' reconstruction, the officers spotted two young men on Via Elena, at the intersection with Via Campanile, apparently engaged in a trade. Upon seeing the patrol, they both fled in opposite directions: the man on foot managed to disappear, while the Carabinieri pursued the man on the scooter.

The escape continued through the city streets until officers, skirting a building, intercepted the vehicle head-on. According to the reconstruction, the driver failed to stop at the commanded stop and struck one of the Carabinieri officers who had gotten out of his patrol car to stop him, knocking him to the ground. The young man then abandoned the scooter and continued on foot, throwing a small metal container under a parked car in an attempt to dispose of it.

The search continued, and the boy was caught and stopped while attempting to retrieve the scooter. During the subsequent search, officers found a switchblade with a blade approximately 10,5 cm long and a quantity of hashish weighing approximately 2 grams. Inside the metal container discarded during the escape, a package containing a substance believed to be cocaine, weighing approximately 0,33 grams, was recovered. €80 in cash and a cell phone with two SIM cards were also found.

The soldier involved suffered minor traumatic injuries, which were later reported to a medical facility.

The young man was arrested and, following formalities, placed under house arrest at his home, pending the holding of a summary trial. The knife, narcotics, cell phone, and scooter were seized.

The suspect's position is now under review by the judicial authorities; responsibilities will need to be determined in the subsequent phases of the proceedings, in full compliance with the safeguards established by law.
