Naples, the City and Metropolitan City approved an agreement for two new high schools.

Naples – The Naples City Council has approved a memorandum of understanding with the Metropolitan City for the sale of several municipally owned areas for the construction of two new high schools, a park, and a multipurpose hall in the Pianura and Poggioreale neighborhoods.

The measure follows the City Council's unanimous approval of the amendment to the 2026-2028 Single Programming Document presented by the Democratic Party council group, with city councilor Tommaso Nugnes as the first signatory.

One of the main projects concerns the area of Via Vicinale Grottole, in Pianura, where the neighborhood's first high school is planned to be built. The identified area coincides with the former outpatient clinic, a structure abandoned for over twenty years and considered a veritable eyesore.

Satisfaction was expressed by the president of Municipality 9, Andrea Saggiomo, and by the Democratic Party municipal councilor Tommaso Nugnes.

"With the adoption of the memorandum of understanding for the Via Vicinale Grottole area," Saggiomo stated, "the municipal administration confirms its commitment to the redevelopment of Pianura, offering a concrete response to the neighborhood's educational needs."

For the Municipality's president, the project will allow the regeneration of an area long marked by decay and fulfill a promise made to residents during the 2021 election campaign.

"This," Saggiomo added, "is the fulfillment of a promise: to work to bring a high school to Pianura. With this policy, we are investing in education and taking action to eliminate an eyesore that has blighted our territory for over twenty years, restoring dignity and dignity to the area."

Nugnes also emphasized the urban and social significance of the choice. "The selection of the site of the former outpatient clinic on Via Grottole was a deliberate choice," he explained, "because it allows us to eliminate a structure abandoned for over twenty years and, at the same time, provide the Metropolitan City with a space that meets the urban planning standards necessary to build the first high school for the children of Pianura."

The protocol therefore represents the first institutional step towards the design and construction of new school campuses, part of a broader program of urban regeneration and enhancement of public services in the affected areas.
