Naples: A cyclist was hit and killed on Via Mario Palermo.

Naples – A cyclist died this morning after being hit by a car on Via Mario Palermo, in Ponticelli, on the eastern outskirts of the city. He was riding his bicycle when he was struck from behind. The driver stopped and provided assistance.

The victim's identification has not yet been finalized: initial indications suggest he may be Indian. Municipal police officers are investigating the incident and reconstructing the crash details.

Fatal collision in eastern Naples

The accident is part of a continuing series of road deaths in Campania. News reports describe a violent collision and another death involving a cyclist in the city, raising growing concerns about the safety of cyclists and pedestrians.

Anna Grimaldi, 17, on the crosswalk

Anna Grimaldi, a student at the Vittorio Veneto Institute and originally from Secondigliano, died at Cardarelli Hospital on Friday. She would have turned 18 on October 30th. On the evening of September 7th, she was returning home and crossing the pedestrian crossing on Corso Secondigliano, on the stretch bordering Capodichino, when she was struck by a Hyundai Getz driven by a 23-year-old. The driver stopped to try to help her.

Emergency medical services found the girl in critical condition with a severe head injury. She was admitted to the Neurosurgery Unit with a guarded prognosis, but after approximately eleven days of hospitalization, she died. The driver's charge was upgraded from assault to vehicular homicide. Her body is under seizure pending forensic examinations. The family has authorized organ donation. Her cousin Imma Russo has asked for "justice, because a life that was yet to blossom has been cut short."

More victims in a few days

In another accident near Naples, a Golf crashed into a guardrail for reasons still under investigation. The two occupants—a 22-year-old from San Cipriano d'Aversa and a 20-year-old from Casal di Principe—reportedly got out to report the accident. A passing car struck the 22-year-old, killing him instantly.

In the preceding days, on September 9th, a cyclist died on Via Amerigo Vespucci, near the Loreto Mare hospital, after being struck by a motorcycle. He was thrown to the ground, struck his head, and died instantly. The same news story reported the death of Rebecca Pepe, a 24-year-old from Lecce, who was struck on Viale Dohrn. By early September, the road death toll in Naples had already risen to 14 since the beginning of 2026.
