Naples, man steals phone from store: chased by employees and arrested by police

Targeted checks in the Piazza Garibaldi area and at Naples Central Station led to the arrest of a foreign citizen, seriously suspected of robbery and resisting public officials, as part of the Safe Stations program.

Officers, engaged in operations arranged by the State Police, were alerted by screams coming from a nearby shop on Corso Garibaldi. Arriving on the scene, they stopped the perpetrator as he attempted to flee, pursued by several store employees.

According to the reconstruction, the man attempted to steal a cell phone displayed on the counter and then approached the cash register to steal the cash. A struggle ensued with the owner, and the man allegedly resisted the cashiers during his escape attempt, being apprehended shortly thereafter.

The investigations also revealed that the same individual had been reported, on the same day, by personnel at the Sapri Railway Police Station for an incident of damage and theft that had occurred at the Sapri railway station.

The foreigner was arrested while the stolen goods were returned to their rightful owner.
