Fonderie Pisano presents the AIA supplements: "Now the Region must speed things up."

Fonderie Pisano is reiterating its request to expedite the Integrated Environmental Authorization (AIA) process and is submitting to the Campania Region the additional documentation regarding the reconversion project for the Fratte plant in Salerno.

The documentation, submitted this morning, addresses the requests that emerged during the Services Conference. The company maintains that it has implemented the operational requirements necessary to overcome the critical issues related to BAT (best available techniques), while complying with the established emissions limits.

The industrial plan calls for a green transformation of the production process, eliminating coal-fired furnaces and introducing electric induction furnaces, along with upgrading the extraction and filtration systems. The plant's two cupola furnaces have already been decommissioned.

While waiting for the construction of the other two electric furnaces envisaged by the project, the company plans to restart production using the existing and authorized one. This restart, according to the company, would have a capacity of approximately 13 percent compared to the previous one and would allow the gradual return of the 120 employees currently on leave.

However, the future of workers is being affected by the expiration of current company benefits, scheduled for the end of October. Without a resumption of activity, staff risk being laid off.

"The reopening process is already taking much longer. We presented the integration project on June 22nd; since then, about three months have passed without us being able to resume operations. For an industrial company, three months of shutdown can feel like an eternity. Further prolonging the uncertainty means condemning the foundry to death," says CEO Ciro Pisano.

The owners therefore urge the Campania Region to expedite the AIA process and thank Regional Environment Councilor Claudia Pecoraro for her attention to the matter.

In its discussions with the authorities, the company also reported having submitted a study conducted by Assofond on the presence of Italian foundries near residential areas and the possibility of coexisting with the territories while respecting environmental regulations.

The issue of air quality monitoring also remains open. Pisano expressed concern about the recent removal of the Arpac mobile monitoring station on Via dei Greci in Fratte, and called for its reinstatement to ensure continued monitoring.

According to the company, the PM10 and PM2,5 levels recorded after the suspension of operations were higher than those recorded in the same months of 2025, when the plant was still operational. These data were cited by the company as part of the dispute and are used to compare different periods.

The issue now remains tied to the timing of the authorization process and the possibility of at least partially resuming production, while the end-October deadline for the 120 employees approaches.
