Naples: Robber fleeing on scooter with two accomplices falls to his death

Naples – A nighttime escape, a road traveled at high speed, and then a loss of control of the scooter. It's this sequence, still being examined by investigators, that is focusing the attention of law enforcement officers who responded to San Pietro a Patierno to reconstruct the final moments of a 26-year-old Neapolitan man who died after a violent fall.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. between Tuesday and Wednesday, on Via Nuova Detta Casoria, a street in the municipality of San Pietro a Patierno. The victim was riding a scooter with two other people. According to initial reports, they were all wearing full-face helmets.

At a certain point, the motorcycle apparently sped off onto the road. The initial investigation is that the three were fleeing after attempting a robbery. This will need to be verified through ongoing investigations, the possible acquisition of footage from surveillance cameras in the area, and the reconstruction of the group's movements before the crash.

The fall and the rescue

The ride ended when the driver lost control of the vehicle. One of the three occupants, a 26-year-old man, crashed into the asphalt.

The impact caused him severe chest trauma. The young man's condition immediately appeared very serious, and emergency medical services were called. The 26-year-old was transferred to Ospedale del Mare, where doctors attempted to provide him with the necessary treatment. However, there was nothing they could do: he died from the injuries sustained in the fall.

The body is now available for examination as part of the investigation, while investigators are trying to precisely reconstruct the dynamics of the accident and, above all, what happened in the minutes preceding it.

The robbery hypothesis

This is precisely the point on which the investigation is focusing. According to initial police reconstructions, the presence of the three on the scooter and their high-speed escape could be linked to an attempted robbery.

At this time, however, this is an investigative lead and not a definitively established circumstance. Further investigation will determine whether the group was actually involved in a predatory act and the role of the victim and the other two occupants of the scooter.
Investigators will also need to determine who was driving the motorcycle at the time of the crash, reconstruct the vehicle's route, and identify any witnesses. Footage from public and private video surveillance systems along the route could be particularly important.

A neighborhood already marked by episodes of violence

San Pietro a Patierno is an area on the northern outskirts of Naples that has seen numerous incidents of crime and bloodshed over the years. The same stretch of land between Naples and Casoria has been repeatedly affected by robberies committed by people on scooters.

Just last August, in Casoria, the Carabinieri responded to an attempted robbery in which several criminals on a scooter pulled up alongside a car and threatened the driver. Two gunshots were also fired during the incident, but the victim was not injured.

Another incident, in March 2025, also involved the Casoria area: two men on a scooter were flanked by two other robbers, also on scooters, during an attempt to steal the motorcycle. During that incident, one of the two occupants was wounded in the foot by a gunshot.

These elements provide a context for the investigation, but currently do not allow us to connect those incidents to last night's events.

The investigations into the dynamics

It remains unclear whether the 26-year-old's death was the result of an escape that began immediately after an attempted robbery or whether the sequence of events was different from that outlined in the first hours.

At this point, all that's certain is that the young man suffered a violent fall, resulting in fatal injuries. Everything else—from the alleged robbery to the responsibilities of the other two occupants of the scooter—is under investigation.

Investigators will have to piece together the various pieces of the puzzle: the location of the crash, the condition of the motorcycle, any traces of the crash on the asphalt, the footage from the security cameras, and the testimonies gathered. This work is essential to transform the initial reconstruction of the night into a precise and documented sequence of events.
