Pompeii, European Researchers' Night: Public talks with Park experts at the Fiorelli Library

The Archaeological Park of Pompeii is participating in the European Commission's initiative by offering an evening of discussion between visitors and professionals working on the site, transforming the Giuseppe Fiorelli Library into an open-air research laboratory.

Program and protagonists

On Friday, September 25, 2026, from 18:00 PM to 22:00 PM, the event will take place at the "Giuseppe Fiorelli" Library in the Pompeii Archaeological Park (Via Plinio, 4). Admission is free and open to all.

The initiative is part of the Olivetti Plan for Culture, promoted by the Ministry of Culture, with the aim of disseminating activities for the study, protection, and enhancement of archaeological heritage and facilitating direct dialogue between experts and the public.

The evening will feature a series of informal talks featuring various Park professionals (archaeologists, restorers, anthropologists, engineers, architects, etc.) who will share their experiences and testimonials, as well as current scientific projects.

• Pia Kastenmeier and Fiona Proto will illustrate the dates of the historical excavations as part of the new digital atlas of the Park.
• Teresa Virtuoso and Giandomenico Facella will explore the planned maintenance for the conservation of archaeological sites.
• Rosanna De Simone will discuss the Pompeianists' archival papers preserved in the Park's Historical Archives.
• Rosaria Cefariello and Vittoria Cutolo will discuss protection systems for decorative features.
• Ilaria Cangiano will present the phases of knowledge, excavation, restoration and inclusive use of the Temple of Isis.
• Alessandra Zambrano will address the prospects of digitalization and emerging technologies.
• Gennaro Iovino will guide the audience through stories and field research, with an in-depth look at the excavation of the House of the Thiaso in Regio IX.

The presentations aim to provide an overview of the discoveries, the results of the conservation interventions, and the contribution of various expertise to the understanding and protection of Pompeii.
