A fire at the LIPU Oasis in Soglitelle engulfed nearly five hectares. The complaint states: "It was bothering someone."

A large fire hit the LIPU Soglitelle Oasis in Villa Literno, Caserta, overnight. This oasis is one of the habitats where numerous migratory birds find refuge every year. The blaze affected nearly five hectares of land and also destroyed a bridge connecting the two banks of the body of water.

Firefighters from the Aversa detachment responded to the scene with a fire engine, along with the Carabinieri Forestry Corps, who have launched an investigation to reconstruct the origin of the fire and determine any responsibilities.

The fire has provoked anger and grief among LIPU workers. Maurizio Paolella, coordinator of the LIPU Caserta guards, described it as a wound inflicted on an area that had begun a process of rebirth in recent years.

"It wasn't just a patch of brush that burned, it was a miracle. A piece of land ravaged by the Camorra, by poisons, by dumping, that was finally coming back to life," Paolella declared.

The area had recently been established as a Special Protection Zone, thus obtaining new protections for its natural heritage and the wildlife that inhabits it. And it is precisely on this point that the LIPU coordinator focuses his suspicions, although there are currently no official investigations confirming the arsonist nature of the fire.

"And it's burning right now, coincidentally. Right after the SPA was established. Right after that area began to have rules, protections, and attention. Coincidence? I don't believe it anymore," he said.

Paolella then appealed to investigators: "That special protection zone was bothering someone. It bothered those who wanted to continue doing business on that land. Those who saw the Oasis as an obstacle, not a hope. Let those who need to investigate, investigate."

The Carabinieri Forestry Police will now investigate the circumstances of the incident and, more importantly, the origin of the flames. Meanwhile, in Soglitelle, the fire has left a fresh scar in an area already scarred over the years by poisons and spills.
