Pozzuoli, fleeing on a stolen scooter: they crash. Two minors arrested.

The Carabinieri patrol from the Pozzuoli station was patrolling the coast when the presence of a suspicious scooter attracted their attention. The scooter was being ridden by two young men, a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old. Their behavior prompted officers to order the vehicle stopped for a routine check along the Via Napoli arterial road.

Instead of pulling over and turning off the engine, the driver hit the gas to try to evade police scrutiny. A high-speed chase ensued through the city streets, with the Carabinieri patrol car following the fleeing moped.

The crash and the discovery in the seat compartment

The breakneck speed came to a halt after a few hundred meters. The fifteen-year-old driver suddenly lost traction, crashing to the ground along with his passenger before the maneuver could cause any harm to passersby or motorists. The police intervened immediately, securing the area and subduing the two before any further attempts to flee on foot.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the reason for the desperate maneuver. In the underseat compartment, the Carabinieri recovered a complete set of burglary tools and an electronic control unit, equipment typically used in serial thefts of two-wheeled vehicles. Subsequent checks of the chassis numbers confirmed that the scooter itself had been stolen.

The protests and the transfer to Colli Aminei

The two minors were formally arrested and charged with resisting arrest. They were also charged with conspiracy to receive stolen goods and unauthorized possession of altered keys or lock picks.

Regarding traffic violations, the fifteen-year-old who was driving was charged with driving without a license, as well as other violations related to the dangerous maneuver. After completing the usual formalities at the police station, by order of the Naples Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, both were transferred to the Colli Aminei First Reception Center.
